LORI’S TROPHY MOUFLON HUNT |
||||||
|
Lori Bienski, the winner of the Big Buck Contest Women’s’ Division Low Fence South 1st Place was given the opportunity to go on a trophy Mouflon hunt. The hunt was donated by Mike and Caira Franz, owners of Rock Creek Ranch. Lori and her husband Tim are both accomplished hunters and guides in the Alpine area of Texas. They found out that Exotic hunting in the Hill Country was going to be a little different. After an orientation of the ranch, Lori, Tim and their guide George Mouton were on their way to a very difficult hunt. As with most of our Exotic hunts on the ranch we used the Safari style hunting in an open jeep and the traditional Walk and Stalk. It was not long into the hunt the rams were found, but to get a shot off was not that easy. The large rams were with a group of ewes that constantly evaded the hunters. After 6 hours of stalking and riding in a jeep, the day ended with only great memories of the pursuit. The next day began, as the last day started, with endless trips of Safari hunting and stalking. Finally, as the day was about to end, the herd was located. Tim and I moved along a ridge were they were last seen, and Lori and George positioned themselves on the other side of the valley. The rams moved slowly within the mesquite trees and finally Lori made an incredible shot with a 7 mag 160 grain bullet. After a brief track, her trophy ram was found. A celebration was appropriate since the score was 34 1/8 and 31 ¾. Mike Franz
