Ingredients
6-8 Axis steaks, about ¼” thick, (not back strap for this recipe)
1 yellow onion sliced thin
1 pint of sliced mushrooms
1 can of cream of mushroom soup
½ cup of red wine or ½ cup of apple juice
Salt & pepper, garlic powder
2 Tbsp. olive oil
Directions:
1. Season steaks on both sides with a generous sprinkle of above spices.
2. Sear both sides of steak in a Dutch oven in olive oil, on medium high heat.
3. Turn down heat & layer steaks with onions, mushrooms and soup and allow to simmer on low to medium heat for 1 ½ hours, with lid on.
4. Just before closing lid, pour wine or apple juice around inside edge of pan, careful not to disturb the layers.
